Chiral: Projection and Paper Sculpture

This art in motion was premiered at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei, Taiwan from June 15th to 18th 2010 as part of the Tripolar Exhibition.  See how the projection and paper sculpture produce visually stunning animation that can only be attained using a 3D CGI software. This brilliant projection artwork was created by Robert Seidel.  More photos and video after the jump.

Chirality is when the property of a figure is not identical to its mirror image. Chirality is a scientific term describing a structure that is not identical to its mirror image. “Chiral” collects cinematic etudes, which develop various conceptual approaches in order to expand the two-dimensional image into space. They are projected onto a sculpture (510 x 260 x 370 cm) and a screen (250 x 200 cm) made from handmade Taiwanese paper and develop very different lives on these configurations of the same material.

The amalgamation of volumetric lights sets ideas from Chinese calligraphy into motion and melts them with influences from European Art Informel as well as impasto painting to an abstract-organic sculpture.  (source: 2minds.de)
